The Downfall of Education — Unlocking Personal and Career Development
In recent years, there has been a noticeable decline in the enthusiasm among American students to pursue higher education. According to data from the National Student Clearinghouse, the United States has witnessed an alarming 8% decline in undergraduate college enrollment from 2019 to 2022. Even more troubling is that this decline persisted after returning to in-person classes. Notably, the decline in the college-going rate since 2018 marks the steepest on record, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The Gates Foundation also found that the number of participants in a study that surveyed future college plans found that only about 46% expressed a definite intention to attend or return to college.
Economists warn that the potential repercussions of this trend could be severe.
